Our Executive Chef Wins Caribbean Chef of the Year Competition

CHATA's  culinary team 2006 has won GOLD at CHIC Taste of the Caribbean! They were  competing with the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and St. Maarten for the best team in the Caribbean. CHATA  thanks The Curaçao Culinary Team: Curaçao Chef of the Year 2006 Stephane Brallet (Kura Hulanda - pictured on the right in the above photo)  Hans van Triest (Floris Suite), Loucine Pastoor (Floris Suite) and Carl de Windt (Trupial Inn).

Also, Stehane Brallet (Kura Hulanda) was awarded the Gold Medal as Caribbean Chef of the Year. Our Curaçao Bartender 2006 Mr. Howard Sintjago (Otrobanda Hotel) won silver in his category while CHATA Executive Vice President Mr. Don Werdekker has been awarded as Executive of the Year at CHIC. Last but not least, Journalism Award winner 2006 Mr. Hans Vaders won the award of best Tourism story of 2005 in the Caribbean.

Our Executive Chef Wins Again



Kura Hulanda Executive Chef Stephane Brallet named "Chef of the Year"

For the third straight year, Kura Hulanda Executive Chef Stephane Brallet has been named  "Chef of the Year" in the "Best of Curaçao Awards". The 37 year old chef has made quite a culiinary impression since he came to Curaçao in 2003 to head up the total kitchen brigade for the 5 restaurants and a staff of over thirty at Kura Hulanda Hotel Spa, and Casino in Otrabanda, and Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club at Wespunt. 


Stephane, a native of Lorraine, France, home of the macaroon and the quiche, decided at the age of 6 to be a Chef. His dream came true about 10 years later as he started his apprenticeship in a small hotel, near his hometown. After finishing his apprenticeship and school he joined the French navy for 1-½ years. 

Stephane then moved to Toronto, Canada to work for a French Restaurant Auberge du Pommier, which was ranked among the top 5 Restaurants in the City. He stayed there for about 4 years and left as Sous Chef to go back to France and to increase his knowledge. Stephane managed to get his foot in the door to work for famous Chefs such as 3 Star Michelin Michel Bras, Alain Passard in Paris and Bernard Loiseau in Bourgogne. He decided later to go back to Toronto to work as Executive Sous-Chef, at the Windsor Arms Hotel, part of the Small Luxury Hotel of the World, for its re-opening, after a four year renovation.

Stephane went on to work for the Manitou Inn, one of the six, 5 * Relais and Chateaux, in Canada as Executive Chef. A year later he had a short stint in Mexico before moving to the Dominican Republic where he was the Chef de Cuisine for the Barcelo Hotel and Convention Center.

Stephane joined Hotel Kura Hulanda in December of 2003 as Executive Chef and is in charge for the entire culinary department.  Stephane is married to Julie and has two children.
